I’m just in the mood to listen to some samples this morning. Two of my favorite songs from Drake’s Nothing Was The Same contains samples that I wanted to listen to just to kind of see how they were flipped by Noah ’40’ Shebib & Boi1da. The first of which comes from Wu Tang Forever which was Continue reading

The Impressive Songs from Casey Veggie’s “Life Changes” Project
So I have had this “Life Changes” on heavy rotation on the pod this past week. I wouldn’t say that I’m a fan of young Veggies because I still think that he is hit or miss. But I do have to say that I can tell he is growing as an artist and more is put into his most recent music. I remember listening to this album when it first dropped and I can’t remember exactly where I was at the time but I do remember that it didn’t sound that bad. So I gave it another listen and pretty soon it was sync’d to the pod and receiving some praise. So here’s the songs that I think are impressive. Continue reading
An album that I think every up-and-coming producer should have…
I recently acquired Lee Field & The Expressions‘ ‘My World’ album. I think that if you are an up-and-coming producer and you like to sample funk and soul music then this is something that is worthy of purchasing and adding to your vinyl collection. I came across this album after searching for a sample by one of favorite producers, Black Milk. The song that he sampled was so pure that I just had to hear the rest of the album in hope of discovering some fresh music to add to the pod. This doesn’t happen often but after I listened to the snippets to ‘My World’ I was impressed. Kudos to the lovely people at Amazon for hooking me up with so many credits that I was able to get this joint for the price of Free.99. Until recently I haven’t heard anything about Lee Field & The Expressions but it surprised me that most of their music was made within the last 10 to 15 years and it doesn’t imitate any of the songs in their genre from before that time. To provide you with your morning piff I have provided a full stream of the album and a list of samples after the link, enjoy! Continue reading
My 2 Favorite Tracks from Clams Casino’s Instrumental Tape
Clams released an instrumental tape a while back and I have been listening to it from time to time. I have to say that his productions do more for me than hearing somebody slaughter his beats. I let Satch get a listen to the tape and he said that most of the beats sound the same, I have to agree with his statement. But where we differ in opinion is how we feel about that. I like his beats for the most part, you can tell that he has plenty of potential and I just hope that he continues to grow and put more passion behind it as he goes forward. The two tracks that I enjoy listening to the most are Continue reading
Willie B. (of Digi+Phonics) showing the origins of “Rigamortis”
Willie B has these mini series on youtube where he basically shows you a sample and then how he chopped it and makes an excellent production. In this episode he shows the origins of Kendrick Lamar’s “Rigamortis”. For some reason the audio quality in this video is pretty shitty but I bet it sounds wonderful in real life. Enjoy and check out more episodes from Willie B.
Dom Kennedy – II: From Westside, With Love Mixtape Review
Dom’s Prayer
SwagGordon: at first when this song comes on I was like hmm not really sure if I was feeling it but then the piano keys come in
Satchford: Yea that choppy melody volume is lowered then.
Satchford: Dom keeps it 100 on this one.
Satchford: “I’m handsome from my daddy’s face”
SwagGordon: yea I like the truthfulness of the song
Satchford: the keys do bring this track to life…I’m feeling this one
SwagGordon: I’m kind of feelin the singing at the end….good ole doo-wap Continue reading
XV’s “Wichita” sample re-revealed
A while ago we reviewed XV’s Zero Heroes Mixtape and ever since I heard the intro to that tape I have been amazed by the production. Earlier on we identified the most obvious sample present in the song (Listen to the song here) but we failed to present the other sample that was in the song. There’s a part in the song when the beat fades out and then comes back in with this orchestra type of sound, that’s my favorite part. You can tell that this part is a blatant sample so after gathering my marbles I got a hold of the sample. peep Continue reading
