J.Cole – The Cure

Guess I missed this song as well while out on vacation. It’s full of classic J.Cole flows and wordplay.

Song of the Week (outside of hip hop)

I heard this song in a movie not too long ago and I just knew that I had to purchase it for the pod. This joint came out back in ’83. It has a chill melody to it and a lot of the portions of the song just matched in with the music made during that time. It’s funny because the title of the song matches the theme of the movie in a way. Check out this week’s selection after the link. Continue reading

8 Million Stories: Lupe Fiasco – The Cool

First time I heard this I thought of MJ’s Thriller video mostly because of the dead digging themselves out their graves. From the start, the planet Mars inspired melody prepares you for an interesting story of a hustler who was shot, killed, comes back to life looking to hustle again only to get killed by the same gun that killed him the first time. Damn. To squeeze all of this into 3 verses and still come across with a message was impressive. Get a listen to see if you think the same. Continue reading

Song of the Week (outside of hip hop)

This week’s selection comes from a HP commercial. I heard the song playing in the background and it had a crazy amount of energy, so I just had to have it. Needle to vein, OD’ed. The reverb on this joint is so ill. I don’t know much about this band, seeing that I just got my first listen to them not too long ago, but I will be checking out their album ‘Welcome Reality‘. If this continues the mixtape for the song of the week series will have an overload of energy. Enjoy this week’s selection. Continue reading

An album that I think every up-and-coming producer should have…

I recently acquired Lee Field & The Expressions‘ ‘My World’ album. I think that if you are an up-and-coming producer and you like to sample funk and soul music then this is something that is worthy of purchasing and adding to your vinyl collection. I came across this album after searching for a sample by one of favorite producers, Black Milk. The song that he sampled was so pure that I just had to hear the rest of the album in hope of discovering some fresh music to add to the pod. This doesn’t happen often but after I listened to the snippets to ‘My World’ I was impressed. Kudos to the lovely people at Amazon for hooking me up with so many credits that I was able to get this joint for the price of Free.99. Until recently I haven’t heard anything about Lee Field & The Expressions but it surprised me that most of their music was made within the last 10 to 15 years and it doesn’t imitate any of the songs in their genre from before that time. To provide you with your morning piff I have provided a full stream of the album and a list of samples after the link, enjoy! Continue reading

Realest Track Rick Ross Ever Made

“I’m just living my life…”

No I.D. on the track, let the story begin.

Evident is Rick Ross’ beat choices. He has a great ear for choosing excellent backdrops to his lyrics. Better than any Maybach Music, Live Fast and Die Young, or any other beat chosen, this beat here sits atop those excellent beat choices. The guitar is whining, the piano is sad, the background voices are sobbing, some are shouting and Rick Ross is crying Continue reading
