He’s probably the most unknown member of Black Hippy, overshadowed by Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, and Kendrick Lamar. He’s been out for a few years now and has put in work. I’ve been paying close attention to a lot of artists but Ab-Soul always impresses me with his vision, flows, abstract subjects and drive. That drive is something you can’t deny this guy has. As he says “more drive than the fastest hooptie“. He really says whatever he’s thinking, thats something I like and a lot of thoughts I can relate to. If you thought Kendrick Lamar was on some other stuff, Ab Soul goes a little further. 100% pure honesty, no filler.
“If I could own your attention for at least a minute, you’ll gain so much wisdom you’ll need to see a dentist”
He got some very good tracks that have gone under the radar and deserves some light. Over time his flow and rhymes have got better, songs have become more complete, mixtapes have improved. He earned a personal playlist on my pod and only a handful of artists get one of those from me. The one song that really got me interested in this guy was his “Day In The Life” video. That song was honest, funny, and impressive altogether and that came out years ago. He looks to be on the right track and with the right team, hopefully he continues to drop good music. Check out some tracks below.
